Fixed up my Broken Pressed Powder

Hi everyone,

Remember I said I was going to share pictures of what I come up with after based on what I learnt online, http://tolumakeovers.blogspot.com/2013/11/diy-how-to-fix-broken-pressed-powder-or.html , well here they are. I forgot to take pictures of the broken powder, but this are the pictures of the result I got after using the rubbing alcohol.....
sprayed the alcohol on it.

dried up look. (I wasn't so neat about it though)

It actually worked, I was able to salvage what was left of my powder. And it still came out with the same effect on the face.....*am happy*

Hegai & Esther Presents it's end of year Clearance sale...

A little over a decade ago when I started my career in makeup artistry a lot of things just weren't right. Brides didn't see the need for the services of a mua when their aunties were on ground to apply powder on their faces; advertising agencies didn't see why they should pay muas reasonably well for being on set for hours ensuring that  models looked great in their pictures...times were hard!
But these problems were little compared to the one of sourcing for makeup products and tools. At that time muas were at the mercy of whatever cosmetics dealers in Nigeria had to offer...kudos to Kuddy Cosmetics! There were limits to what we could get to buy, pro makeup products and tools were not accessible, and the few available ones were either substandard or cut throat expensive.

Today, this is the niche that Hegai & Esther fills: providing all sorts of top quality makeup tools to muas and makeup enthusiasts in an accessible and affordable manner. And to further our vision we recently introduced our yearly clearance sale which ultimately is about giving every makeup artist the opportunity to have those makeup tools in our stock that they've been yearning for. We want to encourage every aspiring mua to jump start her career, and we also want to make it easier for pro muas to stock up on their existing tools.

It isn't so much as a profit making venture for us at Hegai & Esther but rather a way of giving back to all our customers who have been so gracious to us all year round.

It starts on the 13th of November all the way to the 22nd of December. Tools ranging from makeup cases, brushes, apparel, disposables, gel eyeliner, etc will be sold at rock bottom prices.

H&E is saying don't miss out on this opportunity to have makeup tools which ordinarily would have cost a fortune and time to possess. This definitely is a Christmas to look forward to!

* * * * * *

So guys, let's not miss out on this opportunity.....I am definitely going to be shopping..(you know I like awuff...*winks*...lol)

Heidi Klum Aged 40 Years for Halloween

Heidi Klum had jaws hitting the floor as she appeared as an octogenarian at her annual All Hallows Eve event.

Partygoers at New York City's Marquee nightclub couldn't believe that the elderly woman who walked in with a cane was really Klum, 40. The aging process was an all day experience, which Klum, in typical fashion, tweeted about as she went.

At the helm of her remarkable transformation were makeup maestros Bill Corso and Mike Marino who aged her with miraculous precision -- even adding varicose veins to her legs and dead ringer crepe-iness to her neck.

I have to give it to her and her makeup team, they did a fantastic job in the transformation. For a fashion diva, she's got quite an interesting sense of humour.

DIY - How to Fix a Broken Pressed Powder or Blush

Hello Everyone,

I know that heartbreaking feeling or moment you experience when your compact powder or blush or even shadow falls to the ground and breaks into pieces. It not only breaks, then it just messes up your makeup purse. I have experienced it so often myself, as a matter of fact just yesterday, and my state of upset made me go research on if there was a way to salvage this broken (expensive) product. Training as a MUA, there was no where in my training that I was thought how to sort issues like this out, and I am sure that applies to most of you aswell. So thanks to the internet, I was able to find quite a lot of interesting articles that help solve this issue. So I have decided to share it with you guys, I haven't tried it yet, but would do that soon and share the pictures of what I come up with....

So before tossing your broken beauty products, try these quick, cheap solutions.......

All you really need is a mascara tube (or anything with a small flat surface), rubbing alcohol, and the broken pressed powder you want to fix.

Step 1: Crush the powder.

You want to break up all the solid pieces to make your pressed powder into loose powder. You won't need to transfer the powder anywhere, just crush the powder while it's in the pan. Take your mascara tube and crush whatever solid pieces are left to create a powder.

Step 2: Add the rubbing alcohol.

Take some rubbing alcohol(make sure it's %70) and add some to the loose powder. This will make a paste. Add enough alcohol so that all the powder is covered (but be careful not to add too much).

Step 3: Wait.

Let it dry. The alcohol will evaporate leaving you with a pressed solid. Be sure to leave it overnight with the lid open. This will help it dry faster.

Step 4: Spruce it up.

Make it pretty. This step is optional. Once the powder is dry, you want to clean up the edges of the pan and the packaging. You can use a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol. This is more for aesthetics.

And they say, it's that simple.

Steps to Creating the Perfect Eyeliner Flick...

A lot of us ladies, find achieving the eyeliner flick a bit challenging, we believe it can only be achieved by makeup artists. But the reality of it is, it can be done, however, if you know some handy tricks. So try these eyeliner flick tips for a fabulous look.....
The Steps...
  1. Apply the liner with a steady hand. If your hand tends to be a bit wobbly when putting on makeup, then try lean your elbow on a table. This makes application a lot easier and reduces the chances of having to wipe off your liner and start again...(which can be very annoying)
  2. Switch to liquid or Gel liners, they are smoother than pencils and don't drag on your eyes when applying and they make the flick easier to do...
  3. Mark the point on the outside edge of your eye where you want your flick to end. Make sure that the point is slightly up from the corner of your eye. Repeat this on the other eye so they both have even lengths.
  4. Draw a thin line from the center of your upper lashline to the outer corner, curving it upward at the end toward your temple. Repeat with a line directly above, then fill in any gaps between the two lines.
  5. Start light. Don't try to draw in a thick line, as the chances are high that it'll end up going wrong. It's better to start by drawing thinner lines, as you can always add more depth.
  6. However careful you are, there are times when your flick goes wrong. Always have cotton swabs(it allows you to remove tiny areas rather than the whole liner) and eye makeup remover handy, so that you can fix any mistakes.

So let's give it a try, and see if we are able to achieve this. And if we somehow couldn't, then feel free to call on me to come help out at a small token...*winks*. Hope you guys like the new look of my blog? I have been getting reviews asking me to change the outlook for awhile now, and I have been a bit reluctant, but I finally have yielded, so I hope you guys like it. I might still go back to my former outlook, but enjoy this.

My 6 Steps to the Perfect Smokey Eye Look

Hi everyone,

Smokey eye makeup is a very common look you find on a lot of fashion magazine pages and I will say because it's a sexy, bold and sophisticated look to wear. So for that bold smokey eye look, try this 6 easy steps:

  1. Prep your eyelid with an eyeshadow base or primer, so the makeup can last longer and prevent the shadow from melting into the eyelid crease.
  2. Apply a shimmery color of shadow into the inner corner of the eyes as I did in the picture above. Just a little something to make your eyes pop abit.
  3. Brush on a dark color shadow (could be blue or black or even a mixture of any dark color) intensely on the lash line and blend towards the brow bone.
  4. The secret is blending- so be sure to blend in the colors to avoid any harsh lines.
  5. Apply two coats of mascara on both the upper and lower lashes and remember to highlight your brow bone.
  6. Double check to make sure your eyes match and clean up any shadow that has fallen below the eye.
Note...Remember to keeps the lips nude or with light color as possible.

WHAT YOU NEED
  • Eye Primer
  • Eyeshadow (1 light and 1 dark)
  • Eyeliner
  • Mascara
  • And ofcourse makeup brushes
And there you have it. So lets play a little game, send me pictures of what you were able to re-create to my mail box -tolulove2001@yahoo.com and you get a discount in the upcoming makeup training in October. Send your pictures before the 4th of October with your name and phone number detailed.

Cervical Cancer Awareness......

Hello Everyone,

So I decided to put this post up just to join in the awareness being created on Cervical Cancer. I recently just went for a screening aswell and I am glad I did. I am not much of a medical person, but here is the facts I dug up about this:

  • Breast, cervix, and colorectal cancers are the most commonly diagnosed cancers in women.
  • In 2008, cervical cancer was the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in women worldwide. An estimated 529,800 were diagnosed, with over 85% of those diagnosed in developing countries.
  • Human papillomavrius (HPV) infection is the most common sexually transmitted viral infection and is the causative agent of cervical cancer. Although it is the causative agent, most women who are infected do not develop cancer.
  • Both incidence and deaths from cervical cancer have declined markedly over the last several decades, due to more frequent detection of pre-invasive and cancerous lesions of the cervix from increased Pap screening.
  • The five-year survival rate for early invasive cancer of the cervix is 92 percent. The overall five-year survival rate (for all stages combined) is about 73 percent. For pre-invasive cervical cancer, the five-year survival rate is nearly 100 percent.
  • Worldwide, cervical cancer kills one woman every 2 minutes...(that's a scary fact)
  • In developed countries, the widespread use of cervical screening programs has reduced the incidence of invasive cervical cancer by 50 percent or more.
  • Women who had first sexual intercourse at an early age or who have had many sexual partners, or have partners who have many sexual partners, have a higher-than-average risk of developing cervical cancer. (This is highly important)
So, ladies out there, please go for the screening, it's not painful, it doesn't take long at all, lets not feign ignorance, cuz the awareness is out there already. I have done mine, go do yours......

My TGIF Face.......I Call it Freestyling.......

So lately I get really lazy to do anything major on my face, so most times when I have an outing, I end up just playing around my brows, lashes and lips. But today, I decided to add a little extra. I decided to go through my makeup box and use items I haven't used in quite awhile.

I stumbled on an L.A.COLORS Jumbo Eye Pencil - White, I have never used this product since I got it and I had no idea how it would turn out on my face.
Basically, what I did was to line my inner rim with the pencil and further line it under with a Midnight Blue Eyeliner from Avon -G41 glimmersticks and the picture below is what I got..........

Excuse my poor picture quality, I was using my phone to take the pictures.

I think it came out well, what I realized was that my eyes where looking exceptionally brighter.....

Makeup Inspiration......

Hi Everyone,

I had a shoot awhile ago with Mr Hakeem Salaam of HSP Studios and I decided to share with you all. It was a fun shoot and the model we worked with was exceptionally pleasant and she smiled quite alot making the whole shoot so much fun. I realized after getting married that the traditional attire I wore (Purple Sanya Aso-Oke) was just wasting away in my wardrobe some where, so I decided to uproot it out and use it for this shoot. Unfortunately, the buba could not size her, cuz I was a size 10(back then...lol..am about a size 12 now *coveringface*) and the model is a size 6.

Anyways, enjoy...and you can give your constructive criticisms on what I could have done better.....

WEEPING CHERRY - A Novel By Kemi Santos-Omanukwue

This is a novel written by a very dear friend of mine. Her name is Kemi Santos-Omanukwue. It's a young adult fantasy novel that depicts God, love, tears, voodoo, hate, revenge, fantasy, romance, sea world, merman, mermaid, war, games, sickness, disease, madness, dreams and faith. Trust me when I say it's a must read especially with the fact that it's coming from a fellow Nigerian. I have to say, we are doing great things in this country despite the political and economical situations. The novel is available on these online bookstores on Amazon.com, Barnesandnoble.com and Xlibris.com

Excerpt from the book..

When fifteen year old Meredith Hart decided it would be best
to disobey her mother by taking a school trip to Ireland,
she never imagined what the repercussions were going to be.
A good grounding would have been foreseeable but nothing that
would mean paying with her life, uncovering her hidden
family history, delving into the sea world, only a few story books
had told her about.
She confronts her conflicting nightmares and tries to live her life,
love a Merman and save what she now knows of her family

All About The Lipstick......

Lipstick is a cosmetic product that is used to apply color and texture to the lips and in some cases, protection to the lips in cases of 'lipgloss'. Lipstick is most exclusively worn by women, but in rare extreme cases, we have men wearing lipstick.

Alot of us don't even know what a lipstick contains, even I didn't exactly know until recently, so I want to share my little knowledge to you all aswell. So lipsticks contain Oils (it could be Olive oil, Mineral oil, Cocoa Butter or Lanolin), Waxes (which provides the structure for the lipstick), Organic dyes and inorganic dyes which constitutes as the various colors.

So when it comes to applying and useage, most ladies have at least one or two lipsticks that they do not like and will never use. Don’t be too hasty in throwing them away. Sometimes the best colors are achieved when you blend different nuances. Try blending your least favorite lipsticks with other colors and you might just find that you like the result.

If you use pencil lip liner but can hardly ever draw a perfect line, then break the rules. According to traditional makeup rules, the lip liner is applied before the lipstick, but it is easier to trace lips which are already colored. Try it for yourself.

It is a horrible feeling when your new lipstick breaks (and that has happened to me uncountable times). Yet you don’t have to throw it away just yet. Pick up the broken piece with a tissue and put it back in, gently pressing and turning. Then put the lid back on the lipstick and refrigerate it for 30 minutes.

If you want your lipstick to last longer, use pencil lip liner as a base. Trace and fill the lips with lip liner and then proceed to apply lipstick as usual. Remember that lighter lipsticks need a colorless base.

When your lipstick is all used up, there is still a little left that cannot be reached. Use a lipstick brush to take it out of the container and mix it with a little clear lip gloss to make a colorful shine.

Toning, Bleaching Creams, Skin Lightening?????

Recently, I have noticed that the new trend going on among Nigerian ladies is toning. Most ladies are trying to get that spotless, even and light skin and the processes they go through can be very expensive and interesting. Back in the days, it was referred to as 'bleaching', but now the process has been rebranded....lol.

Ladies use toning creams to brighten or maintain the skin complexion and in some cases to make the skin glow. But lately I have noticed that to get a fairer skin, it's the entire skin that gets bleached.

The new trend now is the Egyptian salts, Egyptian milk - Kamana and the likes of it.

Creams with hydroquinone is a strong inhibitor of melanine production, the substance that is responsible for dark skin color. It’s been banned in many countries including Nigeria because of its risk of causing skin cancer.

Now ladies who want to go lighter go for Egyptian Milk otherwise known as Kamana Egyptian milk. Another option is the Glutanova injections which gives a whiter skin while removing all kinds of blemishes like scars and pigmentation.

There other products out there that ladies also use, if they can't afford the Egyptian milks and the rest and these products also give good results according to reviews online. There are: Makari, Meladerm, Skin Success....etc.... but the question for me, is how healthy are they? I'll probably never know since I don't use them, so I can't give reviews, but if you have used it, and it worked for you, your comments are most welcomed. Why can't we be okay with the complexion of our skins, why do we have to go through the hassles of becoming 'oyibos'. And if in the feature complications arise, then story would change. After Egyptian milk what next, Kalahari sand, or Bar beach water????....

I ran into a friend recently, I knew her as a dark complexioned person, but that was like 10 years back, but seeing her the other day, she was white looking, I had walked past her without realising who she was, she had to call my name to draw my attention. (the babe don turn oyibo finish o). Well who am i to judge abi, whatever rocks her boat and every other lady out there. To be sincere, she looked quite good and attractive...lol, i guess being light pays of sha....
